UK car sales reached a major milestone in July 2026, as fully electric vehicles accounted for 27.4% of all new cars registered across the country.

According to the latest figures, more than 43,500 battery-electric vehicles were sold during the month, representing an annual increase of 49%.

The result means that nearly one out of every three new cars sold in Britain is now fully electric, highlighting the rapid transformation of the market despite concerns from some automakers regarding regulation and infrastructure.

The growth also comes as the British government considers introducing more flexibility to its zero-emission vehicle targets, a move requested by several manufacturers that argue consumer demand is still developing.

However, current sales figures suggest that demand for electric vehicles remains strong, supported by a wider variety of products, lower operating costs and the expansion of charging infrastructure.

The British market is increasingly becoming one of Europe’s most important testing grounds for the transition to electric mobility.
